12TH ANNUAL TOURNAMENT AND PICNIC GUIDE
SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 19, 2009 07:00 A.M. – 9:00 P.M. KIWANIS PARK 2924 Stanton St Springfield, IL 62703-5819 The Springfield Tournament Tournament Rules and Regulations The Event The Springfield International Soccer Club Presents its 12th Annual Soccer Tournament and Family Picnic. You, your family and friends are cordially invited to this annual event. A 12 team soccer tournament featuring defending champions, U of I Champaign Soccer Club B, and this year’s special guest, African Footballer of the 20th Century and UNICEF Ambassador, Mr. George Oppong Weah, will highlight the day. Come and watch teams from New York, Indiana, Missouri, Michigan, Ohio, Iowa, Minnesota, and host state Illinois. Bring the family and enjoy the outdoor festivities. A section of the park will be converted to a play area for kids. There will be several family, outdoor and board games on this eventful day. The celebration ends with a recognition dance at the Indian Community Center. Come and enjoy a variety of American and International dishes. Food Drive There will be a food drive to support the local food pantries and food banks. We are kindly asking all participants, players and all guests to please bring canned and boxed food for this noble cause. We appeal to all captains and team managers to convey this request to all their players. Although food donation is certainly not mandatory, it is without a doubt a cause worth supporting. This is one aspect of our tournament that understandably impressed our special guest. Being a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador and rising from humble means himself, Ambassador Weah advised us to always make this a vital part of all future tournaments. His many travels on UN missions in many parts of the world rekindled his familiarity with hunger and the impact of hunger on families especially the elderly, women and children. He hopes every team and all guests donate generously to the food drive. Bring canned and boxed food to support our annual food drive for various city food pantries. We are counting on you to make this a sucess. Park Rules Kiwanis Park is a public park. All rules and laws governing public parks will therefore be applied:
